At the heart of Neue Schule USA is Mette Larsen, whose passion for horses and commitment to bettering rider partnerships drive our mission.As president of this forward-thinking equestrian business, Mette is devoted to bringing Neue Schule’s innovative bit technology to riders everywhere ensuring that every horse has the opportunity to experience superior comfort.Mette leads Neue Schule USA with one goal – to bring cutting-edge design to riders everywhere, giving every horse the opportunity to go more comfortably and confidently.Mette Larsen is a lifelong equestrian whose passion for horsemanship began in Pony Club and evolved into a deep commitment to the world of horses. A Danish-born rider who grew up in the U.S., Mette’s classical foundation was shaped through elite training, including at the Morven Park International Equestrian Institute under Olympian Lt. Col. Mark Darley. Known for her thoughtful, horse-first approach to riding, Mette has competed successfully across the country, earning multiple championship titles from NEDA and KWPN-NA and recognition as a USDF Bronze and Silver medalist. Mette’s philosophy emphasizes balance, biomechanics, and trust—always putting the well-being of the horse at the center of every decision.
Professionally, Mette is a board-certified physician specializing in family practice and geriatrics. Her compassion for human health seamlessly extends to her equestrian endeavors at Metlar Dressage in Ocala, Florida, where she fosters a holistic approach to horse training and sales. At Metlar Dressage, the foundation of all activities is rooted in the equine-human partnership, emphasizing the well-being of both horse and rider.Mette's journey led her to discover Neue Schule bits during a trip to Germany, where she was captivated by the science and empathy behind their design. Recognizing their potential to enhance equestrian performance while prioritizing animal welfare, she became the US distributor, bringing these innovative bits into the spotlight. In collaboration with the USEF, Neue Schule Bits proudly holds the title of the Official Bit of the United States Equestrian Federation, reflecting Mette's commitment to both excellence in riding and the welfare of horses.Her relentless work ethic carries into every aspect of her life—from her full-time career to the evenings spent riding and training her horses. For Mette, dedication fueled by love for the sport never feels like a sacrifice.
